Body of Lesson Plan:
Segment #1
Get the students talking about their birthdays, how they celebrate, what a birthday is? Do you think everyone has a birthday party? Open these questions up before reading the book My Special Day by Suzanne M. Clay
Segment #2
The day we were born on is called our birthday. We could be in a room full of people and not share our birthday with any of them. During the different months of the year, there is someone celebrating their birthday on each day.
Segment #3
1.) After large group instruction is finished, direct students to their individual designated seating areas.
2.) Show the class what a prezi is by linking them to the web page on an overhead or SMART board.
3.) Students will each individually have a chance to add their name to the prezi.
Feedback: What do you think makes our birthday special? Student response “ it is the day we were born”
Segment #4
  • When students are at their desks have them individually draw a picture of something that they wish for, for their birthday this year. (provide writing tools, and paper)
  • As they finish, have them construct a sentence about their picture: something like “I wish for a bike this year.”
  • When the student is finished call them to the computer one by one to type their name on the class prezi
  • When they are finished typing their name they will dictate what they wish for, for their birthday to the teacher to type on the prezi.
  • Once everyone has added their name and sentence, show this off to the class, this wonderful teaching tool that they have created.
